A lot of names of functions and especially variables and slots are not long enough. They need to be longer and more self-documenting, and/or based on intent rather than implementation.

Maybe not needed for v0.19, but definitely for v0.20 I'd say. Actually, maybe our being in the same room is a good opportunity to walk over the entire codebase a few times.
